Domestic life is gaining grounds and with that stay-at-home clothes are becoming increasingly important. As the world pivots towards staying at home, few people are going out and even fewer are dressing up to do so. The more people settle into working from home, the more they are trading their impractical clothes for other options. Lounge wear and house clothes have emerged as the new norm where women are choosing comfortable chic over stylish and sophisticated.
Many gurus and experts are giving advice about working home. They are advising everyone to set boundaries that are supposed to boost productivity such as “getting dressed for work.” While I believe that is helpful, you definitely don’t want to be wearing a fancy dress and heels just to hang out in your living room or work from the kitchen table.
At the same time, you don’t want to look sloppy either, especially when you have to show up online for video conference calls and other types of meetings. It is important to look presentable and feel comfortable at the same time. This is where finding the appropriate stay-at-home clothes comes in. If you haven’t, now may be a good time to declutter your closet and find some clothes to wear.
In the meantime, here are some suggestions for selecting cute (and comfy) stay-at-home clothes that will keep you feeling motivated and looking good with a few of my go-to styles for right now.
Simple T-shirts
You can never go wrong wearing a t-shirt at home. They are the most common type of clothing and so easy to find them for purchase either online or offline. They come in different colours and designs. And are often lightweight and breathable (when they are made out of cotton) so that you don’t have to break out in a sweat while wearing one. Perfect for summer and for those days when you don’t want to think to much about what you are going to wear. Simply throw them on over a pair of bottoms and you are good to go!
Sweatshirts and Hoodies
Sweatshirts and hoodies are a staple when it comes to lounging around the house. They are soft to the touch and very relaxing to wear. Granted, they are definitely an extra layer because you have to wear them over a tank top or a t-shirt of some sort. In the summer, sweatshirts might not be so practical, especially if you live in a tropical region of the world where the weather is always hot. For now, it’s spring where I am so I guess I can kind of get away with wearing them especially at night time when the temperature becomes cold.
Oversized Cardigans
I like oversized cardigans because they are kind of like blankets you wrap yourself in. Again, these are sometimes only appropriate for wearing when it is cold rather than hot. In warmer seasons, you can decide to get creative. Even when the weather is hot, you can wear a cardigan over a strapless top or sleeveless blouse to work from home. If you have to appear in online video calls or meetings, they serve as a great coverup and afterwards you can then open the front sleeves to get some fresh air on your skin – when you are alone or not longer working of course!
Leggings or Jeggings
In case you don’t know, jeggings are actually leggings that have been made such that they look like jeans. Both types of clothes are super comfortable and soft. Personally, I am not a big fan of jeggings but I know many people who like them and find them more relaxing to wear. For me, I would rather stick to the real thing – jeans! Leggings on their own are really good too. I got a bunch of leggings from Ardene a couple of years ago and they have really served me well.
Joggers or Yoga Pants
These are so good because of the nature of the fabric used, which is great for not just exercising and working out but also for just sitting around in the home. They are light and although some might cling to the skin, most are breathable and not so structured. They are good because they allow you to let loose and just be yourself. You definitely don’t want to feel uptight and in discomfort. I like to wear my joggers while working from home. This allows me to take frequent breaks for a walk and a good stretch without changing outfits multiple times.
Good ‘ol Socks
Finally, add a pair of socks to your stay-at-home clothes. Instead of walking around with bare feet, adorn them in something soft like colourful socks. I like to lounge around the house in a good pair of soft socks that are durable and won’t wear out. Plus, they won’t be n shoes for all day and so the chances of them getting stinky from sweat are next to none. It’s a way to spice up your sole style while staying at home! If you’re looking for attractive socks, I recommend Afrisocks.
Now, it’s your turn. What do you wear these days to work from home?

Hi Kathrine,
Thanks a lot! Hope you are keeping well and staying safe my friend!
Great outfit ideas! I live in Washington so it’s still chilly and my go-to have been leggings, joggers, long cardigans, and sweatshirts (lol, literally sounding like winter over here 😂). Thanks for sharing doll, love the colors on you!

So, it is still cold in Washington? The weather here in Canada has been fluctuating – warm one day and then cold the next! Anyway, I am so glad to know you are keeping cozy and chic inside!
Ah yes I admit I have been a bit lazy some days and barely got out of my PJs but making an effort not to do that. In the cool months I do wear leggings and long shirts and in the warm months it is bermuda shorts and roomy tees. Love all of these looks!

Ahhh… shorts are the best! I have been looking for where I could get them in a cute African print but yet to find… love that you wear roomy tees as well. I have a ton of them – one for each day!
