Take a sneak peek preview into the IKEA Africa Collection. A few years ago, IKEA partnered with Design Indaba – an online publication focusing on global design, creativity and innovation to discover new horizons in the African design scene. Out of this collaboration, the idea for the ÖVERALLT collection began. Ten African designers hailing from five countries (Kenya, Senegal, Egypt, South Africa, and Ivory Coast) on the continent, from the fields of architecture, fashion, sculpture and furniture design were selected to work with IKEA. Among them are Sengalese fashion designer Selly Raby Kane, South African textile designer Laduma Ngxokolo and Kenyan design office Studio Propolis.
Together, all the designers involved dreamed up the limited edition ÖVERALLT collection for IKEA, which is set to launch in stores this year in May and some items are already available for purchase online. Their creative innovations include textiles that are a reference African landscapes, rugs made from recycled crisp packets, a chair that fits together like a puzzle without screws and a bench that is meant to encourage socializing. Here are the pieces from the IKEA collection that are giving us serious decor goals.
