How to Style a Cozy Reading Nook

Create a cozy reading nook in your home where you can snuggle under a warm blanket, sip on a hot beverage and flip through the pages of a good book. It could be a special place where you spend time alone or share quality time with a friend. It’s even better if it is by the fireplace but even if you don’t have one, a spot near the window or beside a blank wall will do just fine. There are so many ways to make this space nice and inviting. I’ll be sharing tips on how to style your reading nook from two of my favourite home decor brands namely Bespoke Binny and Eva Sonaike.

Bespoke Binny’s African lampshade and pillow set.

Reading furniture: You can use a couch if you would like but you pretty much need to choose something with a design you love. The chair could either match or complement the existing decor in the room. Personally, I would go for a chaise lounge. I like to recline and relax while I’m reading a book, working on my laptop or watching TV. I also like easy chairs but they’re quite bulky so I find the chaise fits my style better due to its fun, modern and contemporary design. Unlike me, you might prefer to sit in a traditional, upright position so you can go for an arm chair or the Chesterfield. Once you’ve gotten a chair, you can accent it with bright coloured pillows.

Blankets and throws: Your reading nook is not complete without a cozy blanket especially at this time of the year when its getting cold. Winter is just around the corner and it will be freezing outside soon. What a comfort it will be to come home and crawl under a warm blanket with a hot drink. Bespoke Binny’s print throws are perfect for such an occasion. One side is covered with African print cloth and the other side is covered with fleece. In the summer, it can double as a colourful picnic blanket to use on a grass lawn. I wouldn’t recommend using these blankets for the sandy beach though because that could just wreck the fleece.

Accent pillows: On a cold winter night, you’re going to need a pillow to rest your head upon and it’s a plus if it looks pretty. Check out the range of pillows from both Bespoke Binny and Eva Sonaike.  They have matching lampshades for each one as well and are suited to beautifully highlight any space. Both brands carry a colour for everyone. Regardless of what shade or hue you like, there will be something for you. The size of your chair will determine how many pillows you need. A chaise might be able to fit two pillows while an armchair might only be able to accommodate one. If you are like me, you will want a pillow to lean your back on and another one to squeeze while sitting.

I am a book lover in great need of a reading nook! I usually devour books sitting on my bed. However, I’ve got a picute of my dream nook in my mind. Hopefully one day I will get it.

The patterns and colours in your photos are delightful. They are so bright and cheerful. A perfect combination for autumn and winter days.

      Hello Kate,

I love books as well, especially magazines even though I don’t get enough time to read these days. I am glad you find the photos delightful and hope that when you decide to set-up your dream reading nook, you will make your purchase from either Bespoke Binny or Eva Sonaike.
