Try a new bold lip

Are you using the same old boring lip colour from last year? It’s easy to get set in your ways by staying with the same old makeup looks but your lips deserve some love too. Not only do you need to moisturize them often to prevent them from cracking, you can dare to try a bold lip colour that makes a statement. Don’t be afraid to switch things up a bit and bring some attention to your face in a good way.

Green your beauty bag

Sustainability is gradually taking over the beauty industry and you should care about it. If your beauty products contain certain ingredients that you cannot pronounce, it might be a cause of concern. These days, many brands are moving away from harsh chemicals to vegan, cruelty-free makeup made with natural ingredients. A lot of brands promise that they are paraben-free too so there are definitely options in the market to choose from.

Drink water for better skin

Reap the benefits of drinking water such as clear skin. It is recommended that you should drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day. If you are having problems with remembering to drink your fluids, there are many apps that can help with that. Water Drink Reminder is an android app that works with your phone. It reminds you about drinking water and various intervals throughout the day. If you use iOS, you can find the equivalent and get drinking yourself to health!

Invest in quality self-care

Stress is a part of our daily life. When left to run on rampage, it can affect our skin and hair, leading to frequent breakouts and limp tresses. However, stress doesn’t have to get the best of you. There are steps you can take to ensure that you are taking care of your wellness. Do not hesitate to pamper yourself at least once a month – be it getting a soothing facial, a relaxing massage or soaking in a warm bath of Epsom salts.

Apply a good SPF sunscreen

The sun shines even in the winter and although it is not hot, those UV rays have a way of penetrating our skin. Over time, it can lead to damage. Sunscreen does not provide full protection from sun damage but it can greatly help to alleviate it. It also fights premature signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles especially around the eyes and mouth. It is a good idea to pair your application of sunscreen with frequent visits to the dermatologist for check ups.

Take your vitamin supplements

Vitamin supplements can boost the growth of healthy hair, skin and nails. You can take them once in the morning or the last thing before you go to bed at night. Please note that this does not replace the advice of your doctor. Speak to your doctor so e/she can prescribe the right vitamins and supplements that are best for your body.

Try some natural and essential oils

Natural and essential oils are great overall for your hair and skin. They smell good and are safe to apply. It’s not always about the latest and coolest eye creams. Sometimes, all you need is a good, natural oil moisturizer such as shea or cocoa butter to nourish and hydrate. If you are looking for something with a little fragrance, mix your essential oils such as lavender or peppermint with a carrier oil and use daily.

Condition your hair regularly

Winter strips the hair from a lot of its natural moisture leading to breakage. If you have super curly hair, it can be even worse. Therefore, it is super important to replenish the moisture back into the your delicate strands. You can do this by deep conditioning your hair at least once a week for best results. It takes some time to do but if you cannot and need a different option, try a daily leave-in conditioner that is light-weight and not too heavy.

Some great tips here! Also to add a better diet, I have found by including more veggies and organic meats I feel so much better on the inside and the out 🙂

Nice! Speaking of veggies…Canada’s food guide now recommends that 50 per cent of every meal should consist of healthy fruits and veggies. It would be so nice to try that out as well…

Thank you for the beauty tips for winter! Last year I started to focus on making my beauty bag more “green”, and it definitely makes a difference. And drinking enough water is extremely important for your skin!

Oh nice! I must say that “greening” the beauty bag is still a work in progress for me but I get better at it every year. I plan on getting some washable make-up remover pads soon to replace the wipes that one is so used to.
