Dry Body Brushing Benefits Your Skin and Self-Care

*Product review – Taking care of your skin and body is self care and act of self love. Taking a warm shower or bath in these times can help relieve stress, ease tension and relax your muscles. But before you shower or bath, consider using an ionic body brush to get dry body brushing benefits. For this, you can utilize the Prana Brush. Dry brushing your skin is one of the best beauty habits. You can use dry body brushing to exfoliate your skin, improve circulation and energize yourself.

My Personal Experience

The Prana brush was sent to me in exchange for an honest review and although I might have been skeptical at the beginning, I only have good things to say about this product. I have been using for about a week. You see, when it first arrived in a cute brown box, I opened it and I immediately felt the bristles with my fingertips. I was a little concerned that perhaps they would be too sharp or harsh but they are not at all. Having registered that they were not so prickly, I decided to do a small skin test.

If in doubt and for those who have super sensitive skin, I suggest testing a small area of your body such as your arms or lower leg with the brush. Use a few light strokes to see how it feels. I did the same and the bristles did not hurt my skin. I was surprised to see the amount of dead skin cells being sloughed off my skin as I was brushing. Since everything was okay, I decided to use it all over my body just before jumping into the shower. Now, I like to take hot showers so I was glad to discover that the water temperature running against the new slayer of skin did not make it feel tight, sensitized or irritated at all. It was then I knew that this brush was a keeper.

How Does it Feel You Ask?

During the shower, I felt very relaxed and as I sponged myself, I could feel how much more smoother my skin was. The running water rinsed all the dead skin flakes off my body as I lathered gently with soap and a soft sponge. It definitely made a difference. Using the brush reduced my shower time in half since I did not have to do so much scrubbing. Granted, I do take a lot of time in the shower, for at least 15 to 20 minutes to ensure my body is clean but with the brush, I did not have to take so long. After showering or taking a bath, you will want to moisturize with some lotion or oil to help nourish the skin. At this point, your skin will be much more able to absorb so be careful to use only high quality ingredients on your skin.

Health Benefits of Dry Body Brushing

Body brushing has a lot of health benefits that I never knew about until now. According to Prana Brush, their ionic body brushes are made with fine, ion-charged copper bristles, which naturally create negative ions to protect the body from free radicals and helps with detoxification. The body brush can be used up to detoxify the body, remove dead skin cells, aid digestion and stimulate the lymph nodes.

How You Can Use the Prana Brush

It should take about three to five minutes to brush your entire body thoroughly. It is very tempting to want to use a circular motion when brushing but this is not the right way to use a body brush. Prana Brush has curated an FAQ and in it, they recommend using rythymic, light, smooth and gentle strokes towards the heart. You can start from the soles of your feet and work your way up and inward. It will help stimulate your nervous system and improve blood circulation.

Give Your Skin and Self Care a Boost

Please note that when you are using this brush, do not use it on your face because the skin there is much more sensitive. I find that with this brush, you do not have to use it everyday. Coming out of the cold winter months, I did have a lot of dry, flaky skin to begin with so I used the brush daily in the first week but now that my skin is much more smooth and velvety, I do not want to overdo it. Once or twice a week is fine for me right now and I plan to add the body brushing to my Saturday morning self care routine. What a way to give your skin a spring refresh!
