10 Insanely Gorgeous Headwraps Worth Every Penny

Do you know that there is so much history behind headwraps? They are now a popular piece of accessory that goes around the head but once upon a time in the United States, women of colour were forced to wear the headwraps as a sign of oppression or subservience under what was called Tignon Law. The Tignon Law was passed in 1786 by Governor Esteban Rodriguez Miro and it required Black women in New Orleans to wear a tignon –  a type of headscarf that would conceal their hair. Nevertheless, it still eventually became a sign of power as women used the opportunity to rebel by accessorizing their heads with beautiful headwraps of different fabrics, colours, shapes and styles whilst carrying themselves with so much confidence. This act turned a simple piece of cloth into a fashion statement. Today, headwraps have been worn by many Hollywood celebrities including India Arie, Erykah Badu, Issa Rae, Alicia Keys and Lupita Nyong’o. Here are some insanely gorgeous headwrap brands that are worth every penny.

Famn Djanm

The head pieces were sold directly from her apartment but today, the brand has evolved – inspiring and empowering women to live boldly.

Bowspeaks’ inspiration comes from print fabrics, particularly the fusion of Western and Native prints. They make ready made headwraps that are easy to wear and do not require any special skills because of an already pre-made bow that sites perfectly at the top of the wrap. The wearer would only need to tuck both ends of the wrap into each other and it fits tight and snug.

Oh, they are super beautiful. Honestly, I like headwraps, although they are not really usual in that way in Bavaria 🙂

Oh these are so fun. I was watching The Kardashians the other day and Khloe had the cutest head wrap on True. It was pink and had a fun twist on it!

Wow! That’s really interesting to know. I didn’t know the Kardashians were into headwraps but now it makes perfect sense as most of them are too beautiful to resist.

Loza Tam is also one of my favourite choices – that particular one is nice because of its geometric pattern.
